Flexitank Specifications

Every Vinotank is built to PAAS 1008:2014 standards across all three structural layers — inner polyethylene, aluminium barrier, and outer woven polypropylene.

3–4 Inner Sleeves

Tubular Co-Extruded Polyethylene

The inner layers consist of 3 to 4 sleeves of tubular, co-extruded polyethylene — providing the primary food-safe containment barrier for bulk wine. Each sleeve is manufactured to tight tolerances ensuring consistent wall strength throughout.

The multi-sleeve design provides redundant containment, meaning if one layer is compromised, the cargo remains fully protected.

Aluminium Barrier Layer

The aluminium barrier is the defining feature of the Vinotank — acting as a complete shield against oxygen and odour transmission. This is critical for wine transport, where even minimal oxygen exposure can cause oxidation and spoilage.

Structural Shell

Continuous Woven Polypropylene

The outer layer is a single sleeve of continuous woven polypropylene — providing the structural strength and rigidity required to withstand the pressures of a fully loaded 20ft shipping container in transit.

With tensile strength of 1,800 N/50mm horizontally and stitching strength exceeding 500 N/50mm, this layer ensures the Vinotank holds its form from filling to discharge.

Common Questions

Vinotank FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first Vinotank shipment.

What types of wine can be transported in a Vinotank? +
The Vinotank is suitable for all bulk wine types — red, white, rosé, and sparkling. The food-grade polyethylene inner layers and aluminium oxygen barrier ensure no flavour contamination or oxidation during transit.
What capacity configurations are available? +
Vinotanks are available from 16,000 litres up to 24,000 litres, fitting a standard 20ft ISO shipping container. Our team can advise on the best configuration for your shipment volume.
How does the Vinotank compare to shipping in bottles? +
A single 20ft container fitted with a Vinotank can carry up to 24,000 litres — versus approximately 9,900 litres when packed with 75cl bottles. That's a 40%+ increase in volume per container, with dramatically less packaging waste.
Is the Vinotank a single-use product? +
Yes — the Vinotank is designed for single use to maintain hygiene and product integrity. It is fully recyclable and compliant with ISO 9001, FDA, and EU regulations governing food-contact packaging.
What filling and discharge equipment is needed? +
Standard wine pumping equipment compatible with food-grade flexible hose is all that's required. Our technical support team can provide full filling and discharge guidance as part of your order.
What are the temperature limits during transit? +
The inner polyethylene layers are rated from −25°C to +60°C, making the Vinotank suitable for all standard shipping lanes and climatic conditions worldwide.
