Flexitank · 6 questions
What liquids can be transported in a Flexitank? +
Sun Flexitanks are suitable for a wide range of non-hazardous bulk liquids including edible oils, glycerine, latex, fruit juices, cosmetic bases, non-hazardous chemicals, and pharmaceutical-grade liquids. They are not suitable for hazardous or flammable cargo.
What capacity configurations are available? +
Flexitanks are available from 16,000 litres up to 24,000 litres, all fitting a standard 20ft ISO shipping container. Our team will advise the best configuration based on your cargo density and volume requirements.
How does a Flexitank compare to drums and IBCs? +
A Flexitank carries 44% more payload than drums and 15% more than IBCs in the same 20ft container. It also eliminates the cost of return logistics, cleaning, and storage associated with reusable containers.
What loading and discharge options are available? +
Sun Flexitanks support three configurations: Top Load/Top Discharge, Top Load/Bottom Discharge, and Bottom Load/Bottom Discharge. The right option depends on your filling and pumping infrastructure at origin and destination.
What is the automatic air vent and why does it matter? +
The auto air-vent automatically releases excess internal air pressure that builds during transit — preventing deformation, stress on the outer layer, and potential leakage. It functions as a continuous balance vent with no manual intervention required.
Is the Flexitank insured? +
Yes — every Sun Flexitank is insured against manufacturing defects as standard. Our team can provide full insurance documentation as part of the shipment package.

Vinotank · 6 questions
What types of wine can be transported in a Vinotank? +
The Vinotank is suitable for all bulk wine types — red, white, rosé, and sparkling. The food-grade polyethylene inner layers and aluminium oxygen barrier ensure no flavour contamination or oxidation during transit.
What capacity configurations are available? +
Vinotanks are available from 16,000 litres up to 24,000 litres, fitting a standard 20ft ISO shipping container. Our team can advise on the best configuration for your shipment volume.
How does the Vinotank compare to shipping in bottles? +
A single 20ft container fitted with a Vinotank can carry up to 24,000 litres — versus approximately 9,900 litres when packed with 75cl bottles. That's a 40%+ increase in volume per container, with dramatically less packaging waste.
Is the Vinotank a single-use product? +
Yes — the Vinotank is designed for single use to maintain hygiene and product integrity. It is fully recyclable and compliant with ISO 9001, FDA, and EU regulations governing food-contact packaging.
What filling and discharge equipment is needed? +
Standard wine pumping equipment compatible with food-grade flexible hose is all that's required. Our technical support team can provide full filling and discharge guidance as part of your order.
What are the temperature limits during transit? +
The inner polyethylene layers are rated from −25°C to +60°C, making the Vinotank suitable for all standard shipping lanes and climatic conditions worldwide.

Heater Pads · 6 questions
Which heater pad should I choose for my cargo? +
For cargoes that solidify when cooled — such as palm oil, animal fats, or waxes — the E-Wave Heater Pad is recommended due to its faster, bottom-up heating. For general viscous liquid cargoes where gradual all-round heating is sufficient, the Steam Heater Pad is the more cost-effective choice.
Can the Steam Heater Pad be reused? +
Yes — the Steam Heater Pad can be reused up to five times, making it a highly cost-effective solution for regular shipments on the same trade lane.
What infrastructure is needed at port for each pad type? +
The E-Wave Heater Pad requires an electrical supply at the discharge port. The Steam Heater Pad uses hot water or steam, which is available at most major ports worldwide, making it easier to deploy in a wider range of locations.
Are heater pads compatible with all Sun Flexitank types? +
Yes — both heater pad types are compatible with all Sun Flexitank configurations, including the standard Flexitank and Vinotank, across all capacity sizes from 16,000L to 24,000L.
Can heater pads be added after ordering a Flexitank? +
Heater pads can be specified at the time of order or arranged separately. Contact our team as early as possible so we can ensure the correct configuration is prepared and shipped together with your Flexitank.
What cargoes are heater pads typically used for? +
Heater pads are commonly used for palm oil, crude palm kernel oil, animal fats, tallow, technical tallows, waxes, and other cargoes with elevated pour points that require heating to remain pumpable during discharge.

Reefer Flexitanks · 6 questions
What is a Reefer Flexitank? +
A Reefer Flexitank is a food-grade flexible bulk liquid container designed specifically for use inside refrigerated (reefer) shipping containers. It allows temperature-sensitive liquids like wine, juice, and milk to be transported in bulk while maintaining a controlled cold chain throughout the journey.
What is the difference between the 20' and 40' configurations? +
The 20' Reefer Flexitank is a single unit designed for a standard 20-foot reefer container. The 40' configuration uses three separate flexitanks (each 5KL–8KL) inside a 40-foot reefer container, making it ideal for higher-volume shipments or for regions where 20-foot containers are in short supply.
What cargo types are suitable? +
Reefer Flexitanks are designed for temperature-sensitive, food-grade bulk liquids — including wine, fruit juices, milk, dairy products, and other beverages. They are not suitable for non-food or hazardous liquid cargo.
What is Gamma Irradiation and why does it matter? +
Gamma ray sterilisation is applied to the flexitank materials to eliminate all microorganisms — including bacteria, fungi, and parasites — by disrupting their DNA. This is a critical step for food-grade applications where cargo purity and contamination prevention are paramount.
How does it compare to ISO-tank containers? +
Reefer Flexitanks offer a significantly more cost-effective solution for bulk liquid transport compared to ISO-tank containers. They eliminate the cost of tank cleaning, return logistics, and depot storage, while offering 25% more payload than IBCs and 50% more than drums.
Is the optional EVOH/Aluminium barrier available on both configurations? +
The EVOH/Aluminium oxygen barrier layer is available as an optional addition on the 40' configuration and can be stitched into the flexitank construction to protect oxygen-sensitive cargo from migration, taste transfer, or odour contamination. Please enquire with our team for availability on the 20' configuration.
